Schumann resonance

A set of naturally occurring extremely-low-frequency electromagnetic resonances sustained primarily by global lightning activity within the conductive cavity between Earth’s surface and the lower ionosphere. The fundamental mode is commonly near 7.8 Hz, with additional higher-frequency modes whose exact frequencies and amplitudes vary with cavity and ionospheric conditions.

Concept Type: phenomenon, electromagnetic resonance, atmospheric electricity

Aliases: Schumann resonances, SR, Earth-ionosphere cavity resonance, global electromagnetic resonance
